Position Summary
The Director of Development & Outreach (D&O) serves as a crucial member of the Leadership Team and provides strategic leadership in the areas of fundraising, government relations and organizational marketing and awareness. The Director has deep knowledge of, and a genuine passion for, the services at Familylinks and an enthusiastic commitment to the organization’s success. The position focuses on increasing Familylinks’ fundraising efforts, including growing and stewarding relationships with funders and donors, leading development strategies, and serving as a champion of Familylinks’ important mission. The Director is a skilled development leader with a good understanding of the philanthropy ecosystem that supports human services organizations and networks, in Pennsylvania, primarily the Pittsburgh region, but also East Central PA. The Director reports to the CEO, works closely with the Executive and Leadership teams and supervises the Manager of Outreach and a contract Grant Writer to provide for the short- and long-term needs of the organization.
Compensation: $90k-$100k/annually

Job Specific Assignments
- Advise Leadership Team and the Board on growth strategies for the organization’s awareness, government relations and fund development efforts.
- Design, create and execute a plan for the achievement of philanthropic revenue targets through individual giving, corporate giving, in-kind giving, special events, and grants (foundation, corporate and government) in alignment with the goals and targets in the strategic plan.
- Create and execute on strategic goals for donor stewardship and donor relations, including identification, development, retention, and nurturing of a portfolio of individual, corporate or governmental partnerships and donors.
- Act as the primary relationship manager for the organization’s top donors and funders and act as the subject matter expert for philanthropic fundraising. Ensure a high degree of donor and institutional funder engagement through consistent and personalized contact and communications.
- Develop specific and measurable short and long-term plans in alignment with the strategic plan in the areas of philanthropic giving, government relations and awareness.
- Research and advise on philanthropic funding sources and local, regional and national trends, with foresight to position Familylinks ahead of major funding changes or trends.
- Raise awareness of Familylinks’ mission, programming and impact through outreach and community engagement efforts.
- Identify key issues and developments in areas of responsibility, and emerging trends that may be opportunities or threats, and recommend and coordinate responses.
- Work with the Board’s Development and Outreach Committee and the CEO to leverage their networks to identify and cultivate would-be donors, sponsors, and partners.
- Contribute quarterly to the CEO’s report to the Board.
- Develop and implement awareness strategies and initiatives designed to increase the profile and presence of the organization to attract interest in supporting Familylinks’ mission.
- Oversee activities relating to the CRM database (Bloomerang or similar), including donation processing, financial reconciliation, and recommend improvements as required, championing a data driven culture within the organization.
- Coordinate, assemble and proof the production of service line Requests for Proposal (RFPs) in conjunction with programmatic content experts.
- Set and execute on the annual budget and key measurable objectives for fundraising, government relations and awareness and monitor performance.
- Set brand guidelines and work with the leadership team to support consistent branding throughout the organization.
- Manage and oversee the D&O team and administrative direct reports with transparency, approachability and trust.
- Create, manage and execute events annually that elevate brand awareness or fundraising objectives of the organization, including the Lanny Frattare Golf Classic.
- Support internal staff engagement and appreciation efforts.
- Manage branding, marketing, media, and public relations initiatives, including the agency website and social media pages.
- Manage internal and external communication efforts.
- Oversee volunteer activities and opportunities, and on-board volunteers in conjunction with Human Resources.

Supervisory Responsibilities
- Assign, plan and oversee the work of the D&O team.
- Approve all timecards, time off requests and expense reports in a timely fashion (24-hour turnaround).
- Responsible for personnel management, competency development, and coaching of staff.
- Conduct performance evaluations that are timely and constructive; develop staff skills and abilities.
General Assignments
- Record time and attendance via Human Resources Information Systems and timekeeping system as applicable.
- Attend meetings/training as requested/required.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Maintain client and family confidentiality and adhere to HIPPA laws and internal policies and procedures.
Education & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- Previous experience developing successful fundraising campaigns required.
- 8+ years fundraising experience and 5+ years supervising staff.
- Membership in a professional fundraising association is expected.
- Tangible experience of having expanded and cultivated existing donor relationships over time.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Ability to develop budgets and monitor budget-to-actual activity.
- Experience with CRM platforms.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, computer/laptop, tablet and cell phone required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, preferred.
Working Conditions
- Some travel and occasional evening or weekend hours may be required.
- Office setting may require long periods of sitting.
- Will occasionally lift and carry 10-15 pounds.
