Assignments
- Oversee and coordinate the monthly and fiscal year end closing process and preparation of financial reports assigned in collaboration with the Accounting Manager.
- Maintain the financial management system (ex. Chart of Accounts, programs, account segments, etc.) to ensure that accurate and automated reports can be generated from the general ledger structure.
- Prepare, analyze, and distribute Familylinks monthly financial reports, narratives and any other requested reports, while having an understanding of the information prepared.
- Prepare/review day-to-day and month end close entries including payroll, fringe, indirect, investments, allocations, etc.
- Record daily cash transactions to the proper general ledger account codes.
- Assist the Accounts Payable Specialist as necessary to ensure timely recording and payment of invoices from external vendors.
- Prepare/review account reconciliations and account analyses, as needed.
- Manage the various cost allocations to ensure accuracy across various cost centers.
- Work with program personnel on proper invoice, payroll, and benefit coding including cost allocations to proper funding sources and programs.
- Assist the Controller with the agency budget development and import into appropriate software programs.
- Recommend process improvements to increase efficiencies in the overall finance function and work with the Accounting Manager to implement agreed-upon recommendations.
- Assist the Accounting Manager in planning and developing procedures to provide internal controls for all aspects of the Finance department, while analyzing effectiveness and efficiencies gained.
- Assist the Controller in compiling and preparing all information necessary for state and federal fiscal monitoring, reviews and audits.
- Respond to inquiries and information requests from internal and external parties that pertain to areas of responsibility.
- Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the accounting operations and procedures, as well as advanced working knowledge of the accounting software packages and related support systems, which include Financial Edge, Welligent, and Datis.
- Stay current with state and federal regulations that affect the Finance Department (ex. Uniform Guidance, HHS, HUD, etc.).
- Assist the Accounting Manager with maintaining the Accounting Policies and Procedures Manual in compliance with state and federal regulations affecting Familylinks.
- Record time and attendance via Human Resources Information Systems and Timekeeping system
- Attend meetings/training as requested/required
- Other duties as assigned
- Adhere to laws, regulations, and internal policies and procedures, including those related to maintaining client confidentiality such as HIPAA
Education & Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance with three or more years of relevant experience is required. Non-profit experience is preferred.
- Payroll and financial software experience preferred
- Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, practices, and procedures including, but not limited to Regulatory Circulars issued by the Office of Management & Budget, Code of Federal Regulations and other applicable public regulation
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, computer/laptop, tablet and cell phone required
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, preferred

Working Conditions
The Senior Accountant position is located at the Highland Administrative office location and the working hours are during the business day and whatever is required to complete tasks. At times may be required to attend meetings at external contract sites and any of the organization's locations.
Physical Requirements: Sedentary: Lifting up to 10 lbs. maximum and occasionally carrying such articles as files and small office tools. Some standing and walking may be necessary.
