Human Resources Generalist

Position Summary:

This is position is on-site in the East Liberty area of Pittsburgh.  Hours are 8a-4pm Monday through Friday.

The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for identifying sources of talent and the overall hiring process. This generalist role will be fast-paced, metrics-focused, and highly involved with recruiting and employee relations. The person in this position is also responsible for employee retention off boarding, and strategic metrics. The generalist will assist with consulting, employee relations tasks, and work on all other team efforts as assigned.

Assignments

  • Exhibit knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, training, employee relations, and human resources information systems (DATIS/RELIAS preferred).


Recruitment & Retention

  • Consult with Program/Department Directors on position vacancies and intake
  • Identify and recommend the best methods to find and attract talent based on the position requirements and location of the opening.
  • Pre-screen applicants and maintain a qualified applicant pool
  • Develop recruitment advertising materials.
  • Build and maintain positive community relationships and attend recruitment events. Maintain positive university relations with regional schools, and proactively work with them to help identify current and/or future talent.
  • Partner with Programs to ensure that new hires are welcomed into the organization and all their immediate needs and questions are addressed.
  • Ensure all new hires complete the necessary pre-employment paperwork and meet the required background requirements.
  • Partners with Training and program leadership, to identify career development goals whether in their current position or a future position, and avenues in which to advance these goals. Suggests performance development and leadership development paths to employees.
  • Uses data to identify programs with retention issues, and partner with program leadership to suggest ways to improve employee retention. Identify positive departmental models and share best practices.


Employee Relations

  • Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors.
  • Assists with employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Assist leaders with documentation required for compliance.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.

Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, or related field, OR relevant HR experience
  • Experience using HRIS systems (Datis/Relias experience highly preferred)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and excellent computer skills required



Essential Characteristics & Behavior

  • Minimum of 2 years of human resources generalist experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; experience with employee-facing communication.
  • Attention to detail, time management, presentation and organizational skills, and proficiency in executing documented processes.
  • Demonstrated success working collaboratively and building trusted relationships.
  • Has a strong desire to help others and a high sense of accountability.
  • Attend meetings/training as requested/required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Adherent to laws, regulations, and internal policies and procedures, including those related to maintaining confidentiality such as HIPAA.
  • Travel required.
