Overview:
The Residential Counselor specializes in treating youth and young adults with complex trauma histories and provides individual treatment in a residential setting. Services can include individual and/or group therapy to promote social emotional development, healthy relationships, managing life stressors, etc.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Complete intake assessments, individualized treatment planning and ongoing clinical assessment to evaluate progress and other treatment needs.
- Provide individual and group therapy sessions utilizing trauma-informed skills and interventions.
- Complete timely documentation of case records per licensing regulation.
- Communicate, collaborate and meet with staff, families, external agencies and/or others (Director, PCP, Psychiatrist, etc.) as necessary to support services to individuals served.
- Utilize crisis intervention techniques to assist residents in de-escalation.
- Participate as an active member of the program's crisis response team, as assigned.
- Establish and work closely with community and referral sources.
- Present case histories, interventions and recommendations in supervision.
- Participate in professional development through individual supervision, staff meetings, in-service trainings, conferences and workshops.
- Must maintain professional certification(s) and/or licensing.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the dynamics of persons and/or families living with mental health and substance use.
- Understanding of therapeutic interventions and resources for complex trauma, substance use and mental health
- Have an understanding adolescent growth and development.
Requirements
- Master's degree or higher from an accredited college with a major in psychology, social work, counseling with a minimum of 2-3 years of experience working directly working with individuals with complex trauma, co-occurring mental health and substance use.
- Work with youth, adolescents and families strongly preferred.
- Certification in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and/or DBT is strongly preferred.
- A valid driver's license along with access to a reliable vehicle.
- Working knowledge of HIPAA, privacy laws and regulations.
- Strong knowledge of DSM 5- TR.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Possess and communicate a passion for Familylinks mission, vision and values.
- Remain well-informed with MCO, County, State, and Federal policies and procedures.
- Time management and strong organizational skills helpful.
- Proficiency with MS Office, computer/laptop, tablet and cell phone required.
- Other duties to be performed as needed within the department
Working Conditions
- Work is primarily within a residential treatment setting with attendance at external meetings, committees and conferences required at times.
- Schedule may require flexibility which can include evenings and weekends.
- May be in direct contact with individuals and/or families with mental health, substance use and/or communicable diseases.
- Ability to lift and carry up to ten (10) pounds
- May do pushing, pulling, standing and walking (1-3 hours )
